How to clean a necklace? It's a question that we all ask ourselves sooner or later (maybe when we come back from a spa stay!) and that deserves a careful answer.
There are essentially two alternatives: do a simple cleaning with everyday products or rely on a specific detergent on the market. Although there are many products available in supermarkets for cleaning silver and silverware, we do not know them all and we do not feel like recommending a product to you without first having in-depth knowledge of it and without knowing all the alternatives, we prefer to give you some do-it-yourself , simple and home-made suggestions, of which we are completely certain.
Let's start by saying that any cleaning that is not re-plating will never bring your jewel back to the perfection it was when you bought it : it serves to polish it and can restore some vigor but restoring color and eliminating traces of oxidation (yes, those very black-greenish stains) is impossible without a professional galvanic treatment.
What do you need?
- Small basin
- Warm water Marseille soap
- Microfiber cloth (glasses cloth works great)
What to do, then?
Put warm water and a little Marseille soap in the basin ( just a little is enough , don't overdo it). Immerse and wet the entire necklace well, remove it from the water and rinse it with warm running water (to eliminate the Marseille soap).
When cleaning a necklace , it is important to pay attention to any pendants and give priority to them : start by rubbing the pendants and only then dry the jewel completely. By rubbing the pendants one by one, you will avoid scratching them together and you will be able to see all the stains correctly.
This solution is simple and fast, it will allow you to make your necklaces shine with little expense. It does not work miracles ... But we assure you that it makes a difference!
Remember to do this kind of cleaning on your necklaces at least twice a year, maybe you can make this ritual coincide with the wardrobe changes. So you don't forget!
