It is a very common question, also considering the numerous photos we see of beautiful and bejeweled girls on the seafront, and the simplest answer is: better not. If we want to go deeper and answer in a more detailed way there are some considerations to make, let's look at them together.

COSTUME JEWELRY

If you have cheap costume jewelry, maybe a trendy object made of poor materials like plastic, don't worry. You can take them into the water, you can dive and do somersaults: they won't get ruined and if they do get ruined the damage is limited.

GOLD

If you have gold jewelry, the risk of ruining it is limited: gold is one of the most resistant precious materials, it does not blacken and is difficult to oxidize. It tolerates the stress caused by oxidizing agents well and maintains its shine. However, being a material of great value, there is no point in risking anything other than losing it at sea or being stolen... Better not, come on, don't let it ruin your vacation. Remember, however, always be careful with gold-plated items, they behave like silver jewelry and are very easy to wear!

SILVER

Said and repeated: silver is the most vulnerable of the precious metals. It is very sensitive to the effects of oxidizing agents, it does not tolerate salt water, limestone, creams, perfumes and chemical products of all kinds. Even light would be better left out. In short, silver is demanding and delicate like a little prince of England. This does not mean that you have to hide your necklaces, earrings or anklets inside an ebony case 6 meters deep, otherwise why would we buy them to make these jewels? But it is better not to wear them on the beach. Keep them in your jewelry box and wear them in the evening to go out: they will not get ruined and you will look great!
